Alright, Im about 30 seconds away from going insane...

I've gone through the board and seen various ways to use ingroup, but for some unknown reason I cannot get it to work on a Windows 9X machine. I've tried the INI file, the reghack, the DLL upgrade, but all I ever get is a returned value of 0. The group is in the domain, and there are accounts in it. (Mine included). It works under NT/2K/XP no issues, but not 95/98.

The script Im using it in is really, REALLY simple.

Function IdentifyTemplates($UserName)

Select
Case (InGroup("CoreSys\PER-Office-MIS-Dept") > 0)
$IdentifyTemplates="ERG Management Services M.I.S|MIS"
Case 1
$IdentifyTemplates=""
EndSelect

EndFunction

I'm writing a document deployment script, and I can do all the hard stuff - What OS, what version of Word, users profile path, etc..., but I cannot get a simple ingroup command working. Can anyone shed some light?

And you've got the KXRPC service installed and running on all your domain controllers, right ?

Yes - running on the all the DC's.

I tried ingroup, and when that didn't work, I tried using GetObect instead. Same result.

It's weird, because we have other 9X machines running other scripts that use ingroup that I have written, but appear to be functioning normally.

Try it with a shorter group name. If memory serves, Win95 has some specific issues with names.

Ah.... Didn't think about checking that file. And lo and behold what do we find....
Failed to locate/connect to KXRPC server

Failed to dertmine KXRPC server

Thanks. Now to find out why that's not working.

Well now the fun starts - are you running kix32.exe and kxnn.dll's off the netlogon share, or from the wks ? If from the wks, might want to "refresh" these with new copies ... if from the netlogon share, might want to make sure you don't any rougue kxnn.dll's on the wks - that kinda thing.

I guess what i'm saying is make sure kix on bad wks is the same as kix on good wks ?

-Shawn

oh, and Les always advises running kix32 on win9x from the workstation and not from the netlogon shares - sounds like a plan to me or maybe something you could test-out on the bad wks ...

I'm running it off the netlogon share. I've just reloaded them. I've deleted and made sure they wasn't any on the 9x machine.

Hoorah. I've got it working... The entries in the Kixtart.ini were not working.

I was using \\ServerName, but I changed them to \\ServerName.Subdomain.Domain.Com and it worked?...

Weird.

Thanks Shawn for all your help. I never considered the KXRPC service as being the issue.

Malcolm,
Based on what you say, sounds like a Win2K AD. Still, the short name should resolve through WINS. If you use WINS, check the IP settings.

Shawn,
It's going...
