The values do get set in the registry, with setx -m, later in the batch...
If the system is renamed (it usually is), then NEWSID runs, and needs a reboot.
After the reboot, if joining the domain, we need to run NETDOM.exe. Add-comp.bat handles this for me, from the runonce key...
The .vbs is for modifying the computer object description, etc..., in AD, after the join and another reboot.
Like I said... somewhat convoluted...
