I know I've annoyed ppl about this before, but come on... seriously... the smilies here looks like they've been made by an infant, and using them makes the poster looks like... and infant. The simple smile-smilie makes one both look and feel stupid.

hello, I'm dr Gonzo

look ma, I'm happy!

..and what's up with the uni-brow?

has this guy been putting up make-up?

what's this? Looks like glasses and lipstick or something.

And this must be a yellow version of Kermit:

Look, I've just taken a huge dump and enjoying the aftershock:

Seriously heh... why not use better/standard ones? Like:

>>>
>>>
>>> or or for example..
>>>
>>>
>>> or etc..

Got a whole set if someone can implement them...

well...
changing just one of them does not work as it does fit the coloring schema of the old ones.
and many of the suggestions don't look good in their new color.

guess they just are too hip to my liking.
if one wants hip, he can surely vote for it.
or visit a hip forum... some teenage site maybe?

Well, I have to confess that I don't like the smilies either. The smilies that we had with the old board software were much closer to the mood that they were supposed to represent IMO. The current ones just don't fit very well, and as they are supposed to be used to reflect the nuances of speech that are lost with the written word it makes them useless.

I especially don't like the sinister "smiling" smiley - the only people who smile like that are a sandwich short of a picnic.

When you are comdemning someones code and you add the smiley to mean "don't take this too hard, I'm trying to help" it can sometimes look like what you intend is "I'm taking the piss out of your awful programming skills you worthless noob"

yeah, I agree totally Richard.

@Lonk, most of those are VBulletin standard smilies. They hardly look "teen", if any smilies does, it's the current one's. Would even go so far as to stating that most ppl will agree to that

These smilies also have a hard contour, so they fit all color schemes in different to the current ones.

I also have a complete set with standard-smilies that we could use if you wish lonk...

We need them because this is a multi-national board and not everybody's first language is English. Smilies (or emoticons) help convey the tone of the conversation and avoid language or cultural misunderstandings.

Of course they can be overused to an irritating degree...

Assume that should be read:

These smilies also have a hard contour, so they fit all color schemes in opposite to the current ones.
