Hi Folks,

Im in desperate need of help!!!!!
i have to do an audit of all our software at work, the reason being is that i have to return an audit form from the BSA (www.bsa.org) telling them of our schools current licesning situation.... We have about 150 NT4 workstations and i dont wanna have to round every machine and look at the installed Microsoft Products.

All i need is a script that will maybe check for Word,Excel,Access,Powerpoint and publisher. Then write the info back to a text file with the computer name....you get what i mean??

Any help will be appreciated.

TIA
Mike

Easy solution:

Don't send your form back to the BSA. The BSA does not have a legal right to request this information from you. Therefore, I would not return the form voluntarily. you might want to talk to a lawyer about it but we're trashing every BSA letter reminding us to submit our current list of software to them.
Alternatively, Microsoft has a tool on their website which scans a NT domain for Microsoft software and returns a list of all software used, it's called "Microsoft Software Inventory Analyzer".

As far as the BSA is concerned, the information provided by you to them is voluntary. The BSA is trying to strong-arm people into those audits. At least here in the US the recommendation is not to answer.

Thanks sealeopard, that little proggie did the trick nicely. as for the BSA, i will look into if they are legally allowed to ask this, but i wanted it for my own records anyway.

Dear,

When we are all going to use XP BSA isn't necessary anymore.
Some manufactories has implement very good methods for distribution
of software, which can't easily be copied or installed to other
computers and which doesn't do an attack to our privacy.

During a license activation by internet a great amount of personal
information can be collected and can be transferd without your
knowledge and consent.
It looks like that a little saving of a small investment for the
manufactory cost the end-user a great amount of time and money.
Why. Other products are covered by the guarantee and by software
you doesn't have any guarantee. No guarantee
- to return it, when the products doesn't do the things you wanted.
- to get discount by an inferior product. sometimes the prices for the same
product are now much higher then during the introduction of it.
- to get fixes for your problems with the product.
greetings.
