The manual does not purport that the "" parm works on any OS or inversely that it does NOT work on any specific version. I don't remember whether the "" parm was an undocumented unsupported feature but since it worked at one time and since it is fairly common knowledge that it worked, it should be mentioned in the manual.

If Ruud decides that it is not by design and does not want to fix it, it is his prerrogative.
