I kind of thought we converted all immigrants to our way of thinking. In your case, maybe it is because you live in the boonies isolated from the rest of us. (Where is Fort Frances, by the way?? With a name like that I would expect James Bay?) 
PS: Did a google search - is Fort Frances Near Thunder Bay or the Sault?
