Well that s#cks. You could do the redirect my documents by GPO as sugested by Les so you dont need the script. And this a user bassed policy so in your case it should work.

i even ran the gpotool.exe utility against the domain and all the policies check out fine. weird. i don't think i can use the above instructions since it wants a username. i would want to direct each person's my documents to a variable of username. that article doesn't explain how to do that.

Well you can just put in:

Code:

\\%homeshare%%homepath%

or
Code:

\\someserver\users\%username%

or something like it.
We used the first one and works great.

I don't have an environment called homeshare %homeshare%

Your Company might have it as you might be setting it, but don't think it is there by default.

Or did you mean that as a VAR/PARAMERTER ?

Doesn't this get set when you set a home folder mapping in the AD users and Computer for the account?

Don't have it on my machine at home also but always had it at work. Never looked at it at home actually until just now.

Yes, but not everyone does that. I for one do not.

Doh
Assumptions are the cause of most failures I guess and I took the bait. Never actually really looked at it on my home comp and just assumed it was a default environment variable

The second example should work if %homeshare% does not exist or for some reason can't be used.

so here's what's even more interesting now. when i run a resultant set of policies report on my machine, it shows that computer-based policy is indeed applied. however, gpresult shows it is not applied because it has been filtered out. is it possible for both tools to give different results? which one is correct?
