I have a RUN command in my logon script being called from a GPO. However when the logon script finishes it kills the application launched with the RUN command. I don't want the logon script to pause and wait for the launched application to finish but I also don't want the launched application to die when the script ends. Any ideas?

You could try pushing it out to the RunOnce key in the reg.

If I do that won't I have to wait until the next logon for the application to launch? It seems that at least in XP the desktop comes up while the logon script is still running.

yes, you can get the desktop up but runonce should still run after the logonscript.

Just tested with XP and it does not work. The desktop comes up before the logon script completes. The runonce key gets set but does not run until the next logon.

Ja, I was afraid that might happen so I used the word "try". Some people claim that GPO scripts can be made to run sync but I have never been able to do it.

I wonder if using Start /Separate would work.

If I read it correctly Start /Separate is only for 16-bit applications.

You could try one of the task scheduler tools to define and then immediatly execute the task. I'm not sure if Jens' ScheduleTask UDF has a function to RunNow, but my tcLib udf library does. Once you have a task defined, it's a separate environment and should be unaffected by the login process.

Define the task as a Run Once, choose the Remove Task After Run option, and pick a time in the past - noon on 1/1/2004, for example.

My library is designed to manipulate the Scheduled Tasks, not just create a task event. As such, it can be a bit intimidating to use the first time. Feel free to ask if that's the direction you choose to try.

I just had this problem. Try replacing run with shell.
