I created a KIX Script that queries IP addresses. Each IP address range has different servers associated with it. It then calls a VBScript from the server associated with it. I am trying to run this from a GPO, however, it will not run. When I run the KIX Script from my machine, it works fine. I am unable to put the script into the NETLOGON folder because of our structure, and we do not have permissions to copy to the NETLOGON folder. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Get some rights

Well aside from that you can assign your users to run a script from any location, but you loose the redundancy of having a DC from the closest location always running your script. i.e. You can tell your users to run your script from a Member Server if wanted, but really don't recommend. The appropriate method woud be to gain enough rights to do your job properly.

Huh? Redundancy? GPOs are stored in SYsVol and the last I checked, it is as redundant as your DCs.

Running KiX scripts as a GPO has been discussed here often. Try searching.

GPO can still run your script from a member server as well which only means the GPO is always available, not the script. It will run from where you tell it to run from.

You are correct, that scripts will run from a member server, however, I am unable to get the KIX Script to run from the member server... I am able to run VBScript and BAT files. I tried to call the KIX script from a BAT file and, again, works when I run it from my machine, but, not when I try to run it from the GPO.... Unfortunately, obtaining rights is not an option...

Please show the command-line you're using to launch KiXtart and your script.

\\servername\share\wkix32.exe \\servername\share\dns.kix
servername=The name of the server that the script is located on

Where are you putting the BATch file?

I am running it from the same server, under the same share that the wkix32.exe .kix file is located. I call it exactly how I call the other .bat files that work fine (\\servername\share\dns.bat)

I would do some granular ACL checking to confirm that the executable and the script both have appropriate permissions set and that the share has everyone read on it.

NO, no, no...

Put the BATch file in the GPO folder like all the other posts explain. Did you search for those other posts like I asked you?

\\domain.tld\SYSVOL\domain.tld\Policies\{GUID}\User\Scripts\Logon

I did try to give everyone read permissions, however, the script still will not run.

Unfortunately, I am unable to put the script under the SYSVOL folder due to permissions, which can not be changed. I am able to run VBScript and .BAT scripts under the same share I am trying to run the kix script from and they are running fine...

If you don't have permission to the \\domain.tld\SYSVOL\domain.tld\Policies\{GUID}\User\Scripts\Logon folder, then you most likely don't have permission to setup a GPO either. Sounds like you are snookered.

I am a top level OU admin, but, I do have permissions to set up GPOs. The only trouble I have had so far is getting the KIX script to run... If KIX scripts will only run from the NETLOGON folder, is there a way to redirect the NETLOGON folder to a different location???

Is there a way to convert KIX scripts to VBS? I have seen where VBS can be converted to KIX... VBS scripts will run fine from the GPO...

Obviously, you did not search for and read the posts on running KiX from a GPO. Nobody said it will only work from NetLogon. Drop them in the GPO GUID folder like I told you and you will be good to go. In fact, it is only the BATch file that needs to be there.
