Does anyone know of a document that defines naming standards in Kixtart scripts? I.E. what the appropriate naming convension of variables should be? It appears that you can DIM any name you want for a variable, but I assume there are standards for variable names (or perhaps not???)

Thanks, Matt

Well as far as I know you can use every variable you want. Of course you can use the same naming convention like other scriptinglanguages do.

Read the manual which is included in the kixtart zip file. Maybe there is more explained about it...

Please, it's KiXtart, not KixTart!

Standards are a good thing..

otherwise a code monkey on crack will write something like this...

Code:

$ = Open(1,'Rightpane.html',5)
For Each $ In $rp1
$ = WriteLine(1,$+@CRLF)
Next
$ = WriteLine(1,$html)
For Each $ In $rp2
$ = WriteLine(1,$+@CRLF)
Next
$ = Close(1)

variables... we dont need no stinking variables!!

Well if the lady assisting you at the Dept of Motor Vehicles to renew your license was named KATHERINE and you kept calling her Kat, you might not have your drivers license updated.

Please try to remember this is an International board and items that may or may not disturb you, may disturb other members.

As for the Standards. Currently there are NO agreed upon standards for variable naming conventions with KiXtart.

You are free to use any name that makes sense to you.
My own personal preference is (as shown by Bryce) to avoid single letter abreviations for variables. They are quite valid, but mean little to you or another Admin down the road who has to maybe update your code. I would recommend using small variables that make sense to most people when and where possible.

Good luck.

My previous post was meant as a joke. I see that I have not merited the opportunity to jest with the locals.

Do make note that I had changed my post to conform with the "true" spelling of KiXtart....... .....
