jmontgom jmontgom Fresh Scripter Registered: 2005-04-29 Posts: 33	For turning me on to .adm templates. I love being able to alter the registry from my AD. I have a question, does anyone know how to change permissions using these templates so that I can give Domain User .. Power Users access on the Local Computer. I need to do this due to some issues with Drivers not loading for the users on their PC. Thanks Josh

AzzerShaw: Yes, I almost fell asleep reading all that, but it was very informative. Ok, the drivers that are giving me a problem is USB ThumbDrives. Becuase their is literally 100 different kind that require different software when they plug-in I am having difficulty loading the drivers for them. I wish their was a way I could give my users elivated access... but no admin rights. Thanks Josh

Therefore, whatever driver would be required is for additional functionality that has nothing to do with the USB drive itself. All USB drives will be automatically recognized as a USB Mass Storage Controller. Arkane Arkane Getting the hang of it Registered: 2004-08-14 Posts: 50 Loc: Bath, UK	In our school we have USB drives publicly accessible because we must (don't ask me why, it wasn't my choice to make). Here is what we did to allow MOST USB drives to work in MOST computers (note it's very rare we have problems with USB sticks that may require a special driver). Go into Group Policy Management (whatever you use to edit GPOs), then go to the following place : Under Computer Configuration -> Windows Settings -> Security Settings -> Local Policies -> User Rights Assignment. Look for a setting called 'load and unload device drivers'. Set this to whichever group/users you want to have that right. This allows USB sticks to work happily but it also opens up other possibilities, our desktops are locked right down so our users cannot use anything to exploit the right above. Your situation may be different. Just out of interest, what custom ADM templates do you have and why do you have them? I ask because I use custom templates for our site and am always curious to see what other people have done when they customise their GPOs with their own templates. Sorry that this is waaay OT.
