This new MTV video is getting a lot of play and is making a lot of people sit up... which I suppose is exactly what they were trying to do. I did have my teenagers watch it though.

WOW indeed. Never seen this video before (I got Dutch MTV) but it's very very impressive. And it makes a clear statement.
We once had an anti drinking and driving campaign showing a guy drinking a lot in a bar and driving his car into an other car afterwards. Lots of blood flowing everywhere. Text on the screen says: If you can handle the drinks then you’d better also handle this! (rough translation from Dutch to English).

That's a great way of pointing out were drinking and driving could take you in life.
Since I prolly stand for the younger generation here, I'm must say that me myself cannot understand why drinking and driving is allowed at all anymore..

The way they do it in the UK would be nice imho. On TV we have a daily show that rides with the UK police and they give people points on the driving license. If 3 points are on it you’ll loose your license for some time. Don't know if they have to do a new driving exam when they get it back but that also might be a way to prevent people from putting others in danger by driving dangerously and/or under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Maybe a system if they took your license two or three times you’ll need to completely redo the driving lessons and the exam will teach them and make the roads much safer.
BTW: The song and video from Simple plan now get a reasonable amount of air time and TV time here in my home country. I just thought it was a commercial from some foundation called simple plan at first but it seems to be a real band
That system would only work if the rules are being enforced. In Massachusetts for example, seat belts are requried by law but police does not have the right to stop a driver for not wearing one, he can only be cited if police pulls him over for another offence, e.g. speeding. Thus, we have low compliance and tons of people (especially young) getting injured seriously or even killed because of not wearing a seat belt. It's a Darwinian approach to law enforcement.

ROFLMAO I guess we all have some weird laws or regulations (mostly created ages ago) but this one beats all I’ve heard up until now. We even have special camera systems on some roads to spot seatbelts, if it does not see it it takes a picture of your license plate and you will get a ticket by mail. Seatbelts save life’s so every country should let the cops enforce the use of them imho.

Yes so true Jens. Here in California it used to be that way, but now I think they can pull you over for that alone. I know 2 people now that have gotten a ticket for not wearing it and it was the only reason they were pulled over. $300 for the ticket. I think it is up to about $350 now. I'm not sure but I think it is also considered part of a moving vioation which does run on a number system but I think it's around 16 points before they take your license away. Serious offense though they take away like drunk driving on first offense.
Smoking is anothe weird law here in California with no teeth. It is a crime for anyone under the age of 18 to get Cigarettes from any known means, BUT if they somehow get the Cigarettes then it's not against the law for them to smoke - can you say DOH!

In Sweden you can get pulled over for anything ;P But - Seatbelts must be worn. I have no idea what it would cost if I didn't wear it since I always do. And the intoxication level is 0,2 (You can drink a 3,5 beer and still legally drive). Anything above that = they take your licence away.
We have the same rule regarding cigarettes. I started smoking before that law was enforced. It was kind of interesting since I had no real problem getting hold of a pack of smokes... But then smoking and drinking isn't considered to be the same - therefore the law enforcement doesn't take your pack of smokes away - but your beer / alcohol if you're under the drinking age. (But then, I do belive drinking in public spaces (not including bars ;P) isn't allowed.)

Hmmmm after seeing that video Getaway in Stockholm I'd think the laws were not too strict. That type of running would be a felony offense if they caught you which would land you in a State Prison for over a year.
Oh well, guess things are getting tougher all around the World. Less tolerance for everything, has it's good and bad depending on ones outlook.
When I was a kid that type of driving would get your license taken away and maybe a day in jail if that. A lot more tolerance for that stuff 30 years ago.
btw, have any of you played the need for speed most wanted? it lacks lots of stuff that was already in underground 2 but it surely makes your adrenaline run.
and as btw2, currently my cars plates are blocked (the frontal and the rear one) by snow, thus a camera taking photo of me speeding won't do no good as I couldn't be tracked. that is, if I would drive that fast. I'm really obedient when driving

Haha - Get away in Stockholm is quite amusing. And that kind of speeding would make you end up in jail without a license for sure. I think that I'm acctually in one of those videos (they pass me on 'Nynäsvägen' I think =).
