I am new to KIX and need to get out an update for Acrobat Reader 6.0.3. The problem that I am having is that the .kix file is working but it is trying to install this patch on even systems without Acrobat Reader 6.0. I tried including

IF NOT EXIST ("c:\program files\Adobe\Acrobat 6\")
$IsInstalled=1
EndIf

but this didn't work. I just want this patch to run if the machine has Acrobat Reader 6.0 or above. I've attached the area of the script where I placed the comment from above. Any assistance on this would be appreciated.

Select
If GetFileVersion("c:\PROGRAM FILES\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Reader\acrord32.exe")=>"6.0.3.2004113000"
$IsInstalled=1
EndIf
EndSelect

You should look in the registry.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\AcroRd32.exe
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

Jeff,

Did you get a chance to look at http://appdeploy.com ? I believe they have a package or at least instructions on building this for you.

I had a similar problem, we used kix keyexist to check for a key but it only seems to go 3 levels down, no more. Try going up a key Is this fixed in 4.23? HKEYLM\SOFTWARE

There is no known issue with KeyExist().

Using EXIST like that as you've seen doesn't work. Perhaps this UDF might work better for that, but the other suggestions would probably be better anyways.

EmptyFolder() - checks if folder is empty

Here is some example code.

Code:
Break On
Dim $SO
$SO=SetOption('Explicit','On')
$SO=SetOption('NoVarsInStrings','On')
$SO=SetOption('WrapAtEOL','On')

; Dim the variables
Dim $Key, $ReaderVer
; Set the $Key var to the key we want to read
$Key = 'HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\AcroRd32.exe'
; Get the file version from a registry read into the $ReaderVer variable
$ReaderVer = GetFileVersion(ReadValue($Key,''),FileVersion)
; Do an If Else EndIf check on the version to decide what to do
If $ReaderVer < "6.0.3.2004113000"
? 'Adobe Reader is too old: ' + $ReaderVer
; Run code to update the reader
Else
? 'Adobe Reader is up to date: ' + $ReaderVer
; No update required. Continue with rest of script
EndIf

And you should install the current Acrobat Reader 7.0 instead.

I agree with Jens that if you're going to take the time to install an update
to Adobe Acrobat Reader you might as well upgrade to the new version 7 which is
much faster at opening and reading PDF documents.
