It's not about some standard made some time ago by some company that was "first" with it. It's about Microsoft's implementation of it. Don't mix them, cause they WILL have issues. It's just facts.
I'm not all pro-MS. But if you're going to use MS-technology implementations, then do so with their own products. They're not open-source, and with that fact in hand, noone can make truly compatible products... it's simple really.
