At one of my customers I recently retired a server after setting up a new. All the login script adjustments went fine. Printers and drive mappings and such all moved without a hitch. I noticed though that some workstations started popping up with offline folder synchronization prompts as they tried to sync to the old now non-existant server. Is there a method by which I can use the login script and Kix to purge the sync and hopefully rid the workstations of that annoying message?

Do you want to stop syncr altogether? If so, disable Offline Files with group policy.

I checked and it is disabled in the group policy. The server the machines are connecting to (or trying to) is no longer available. It's actually formatted and being used as something else now. Why they're trying to access it with offline file I don't know, but I'm wondering if the files that were cached can be deleted. I'm assuming that's how it knows that there are offline files. If simply deleting them removes the prompt then I'll put that in the login script.

XP does not follow the policy, nor the local settings.
it does cache some network drives even though it's been denied to do so.
and, also, the places where it does this, it's not even same that you can find when you search MS or internet.

XP has something screwed up pretty bad in the cached files system (believe, been experiencing this with multiple machines as well as others) and currently there seems to be no cure.

so, if we talking about XP, I say same as others would say for win9x:
format c:
install proper OS.
