I'm wanting to print to a printer using an ip rather than a shared printer name on a server.
At the moment, i'm using \\server\printername but I would like to use \\192.9.200.35\
Can this be done?? Thanks

I've got a script that maps a network printer locally where the user is.
For instance, the client is connected to 192.9.250.190 and the printer in on 192.9.250.240. The script will map to the printer via a server. But I want to make it where it will go directly to the printer, avoiding the print server.
Hope this helps, here is an example of what i'm doing at the moment.
$ClientIP = "192.9.250" $TestIP = "192.9.250" If $ClientIP = $TestIP IF ADDPRINTERCONNECTION ("\\nw2opib\ITHP4000")=0 ? "Added printer connection.." EndIf EndIf

I know that using the ip in a unmanaged way is wrong but I need it this way due to how we are printing in my company.
At our district offices, i need to make a way to print from Citrix to a network printer directly not via a print-server. This will increase network traffic that i'm trying to reduce.

I work for a news print company and the print server does a low to hi res subtitution on graphics. If a user prints a picture, they will see a lo res graphic on there desktop but the server will print hi resolution. Cutting out the print server would cut out network overhead.

I've done some thinking and planning out and your right. Mapping to a print server is the right Idea but I would like to test the direct to IP idea. Anyone know how this can be done?

Can you tell me what the best way to map network printers will be. I've tried to get the client ip and map to the "local" network printer. This works on fat client pcs but when logging into Citrix, it picks up the server IP and not the client.

For your Citrix Connections, are you mapping to LPT1 on the client? This will help you greatly in Citrix.

Hi Kdyer, no. I'm mapping directly to the Printserver. If you read above, i've given an example of what i'm using to map the printer.
