Hi, I have tried a simple xcopy command to overwrite the normal.dot in the user's profile in application data\microsoft\templates\ and that is fine, however the customised toolbars do not appear - has anyone tried creating a custom normal.dot for use in Word Office 2003 ? I even tried copying the customised normal.dot to default user's templtaes folder and same problem. Also tried deleting the normal.dot before and after the copy and same problem. Thanks for your help. Cheers, Jon

The custom toolbars are not always stored in the normal.dot file. I 'think' the key you need to look at is HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Word\Data. That stores the toolbar info. Its recreated when Word is run. Perhaps removing that and then running Word after you have your template in place will do it? Hope this will help get you in the right direction. Good Luck!

This prevents users from storing their own personal optimizations/personlizations for how they work. I know our finance and legal department would be out to get someone fired if we overwrote their NORMAL.DOT Just something to think of I suppose. I think the toolbar information is stored here in binary format for Office 2003 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Common\Toolbars\Settings
