Hi Jochen, thanx for your help.
I tried $NAME = "Ändern,Wäsche,Überraschung,überwintern"
and it still comes up with "aendern,Waesche, ueberraschung, ueberwintern"

Any other ideas ?

Rainer

P.S. Changed the location, thanx......
