Guys I have been trying the new VNC 4.0 and from the viewer there is a new Options button wich allows you to change the color definition up to 8 colours wich is very usefull for VPN connections. You get a very fast remote usage now.
In the past i had to set the video configuration manually in the remote machine in order to use it.

Whose version of VNC is this?

We are currently using UltraVNC (http://ultravnc.sourceforge.net/) as that was the fastest most stable and best featured I could find, but I'm always interested in compatible alternatives.

Oh, UltraVNC is better now? I tried it some months ago but the stability and bugs were far too overwhelming to even consider using it. Might give it a try again

The next version of TightVNC seems very interesting too (v.1.30), features file transfers etc too.

Or even RealVNC or the original itself?

Just to stick my Ģ0.02 worth in, we use a product called Proxy Remote from Funk Software - its commercial, and fairly expensive for a large rollout, but works better than any version of VNC I've come across. Version 5, which is due soon, will also have new features such as many-to-one connections and session recording - apparently.

For what it's worth...

I selected UltraVNC a couple of years ago to maintain compatibility and because it was the best of those that I trialled (Ultra, Tight and Real - the original was no longer being developed).

We use it as the primary remote access support tool on some 300-400 remote PCs across various sized WAN links. We don't use the video driver hook as the speed is acceptable and it was too experimental when I started the exercise.

I've not experienced any problems with it so far.

When you were looking at it, did you try the version from the stable branch or the bleeding edge branch?

I've no particular loyalty to UltraVNC - as I say I'm always interested in alternatives and if there is a good reason to swap I will. Might get someone else to change the clients though

You ment between OSīs, no? cause you can use UltraVNC in a Real VNC enviroment (as far as I had tested).
I am gonna try to change towards Ultra.

By the way, did you hide the server propeties in each pc from the Tray Icon. Cause I coudnt do that and cannot find out how to do it.

thanks.
