Ok, here's a weird one. I searched and didn't find anything quite relavent. I have Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Reader both installed on the network. It's a 7 server Citrix farm. The applications may be pulled from any one of the servers. Most of the users want to have Reader open when they open PDF's (which is the preferred option). A couple, maybe 1 or 2, want Acrobat to open when they open PDF's. Before I go digging I thought I'd ask, but can a script be written that triggers on the user login and manually changes the association? For example, the default is to associate the reader application to PDF's. But when use X logs in I want to manually associate PDF's to Acrobat. I think it's possible, I'm just not sure. I can search the registry in HKCU and find the PDF association for OPEN, but will this work? Is it in HKCU or HKCR? Or even HKLM? If it's in HKCR or HKLM can this work at all?
Code:
if @userid = "userx" ; perform PDF association to Acrobat endif

I found a reference at:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.pdf\OpenWithList

The majority want READER to open by default. A few want the full version of ACROBAT to open by default. In the Citrix farm he want to make the adjustment on the fly by group/user.

Well, after letting it ride a couple days, I followed the instructions in the link I posted... worked great! I didn't have to enable "per user associations" or in any way modify the farm itself. Basically, install Adobe Acrobat 5 (for us we use 5, not 6 as 6 had some big problems in testing), install Acrobat Reader 6.02, use the ASSOC command to force all servers to use Reader as the default, then in the login script (using KIX32) trigger the registry modification based on group membership. The only change I had to make to this instruction was that I had to add a registry change to put "content/type" as ".pdf" in the same subkey as the one mentioned. Once I did that, webpages opened PDF's using Acrobat correctly.
Thanks for the help as always!!
