I can not get my script to correctly execute the WRITEPROFILESTRING method. I am not getting any error codes, but if I check that .prf file I see that nothing has been written either. CAN SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE?
Here is part of that code, well at least the part that contains the code:

IF @userid<>ReadProfileString($prffile,'General','ProfileName')
$rc=WriteProfileString($prffile,'General','ProfileName',@userid)
ENDIF
IF 'Yes'<>ReadProfileString($prffile,'General','DefaultProfile')
$rc=WriteProfileString($prffile,'General','DefaultProfile','Yes')
ENDIF
IF $exchangeserver<>ReadProfileString($prffile,'Service2','HomeServer')
$rc=WriteProfileString($prffile,'Service2','HomeServer',$exchangeserver)
ENDIF

There is no syntax error in the portion of script that you posted.

However, as you omitted a portion of the script we are currently unable to determine whether the unposted portion contain errors. As soon as I have my KiX-Ray VisionTM upgraded to v2.0 I will be able to also evaluate non-posted script fragments.

Here is the rest except for the statements containing the Newprof.exe file, which creates the profile. Like you said there doesn't look like there is a syntax error and it didn't beep upon completion, but it still didn't write anything on the outlook.prf file.

Your problem has become obvious. You are not concatenating $prffile correctly. If you would have run your code in debug, you would have seen for yourself.

This snippet:
Code:
$scriptdir=$systemdrive+'\Scripts'
$prf=@lserver+'\netlogon\sr-kixscripts\outlook.prf'
$prffile=$scriptdir+'\'+$prf
$prffile ?

Produces:
Quote:

\Scripts\\\DC\netlogon\sr-kixscripts\outlook.prf

The line:
$windir=READVALUE($machinewinkey+' NT\CurrentVersion','SystemRoot')

does not work either as $machinewinkey is not defined. You should SetOption('Explicit','On') to ferret out missing var definitions.

what do you mean I'm not concatenating prffile
Les? Oh yeah, I forgot to include that I have a script that includes all of my global variables. Sorry I'm new at this

concatenating = joining together string segments and vars.
The resulting $prffile var is not a valid filespec.

I don't want to sound like an idiot, but it is just not sinking in. prffile=$scriptdir+'\'+$prf. $scriptdir is clearly C:\ and the location that I have for the $prf is good, because it works with other parts of the script. Again, I don't want to sound like an idiot. Here is my whole script, but I am only concerned about the Outlook section which is the last.

The part that doesn't sink in is how is \Scripts\\\DC\Netlogon\sr-kixscripts\outlook.prf is different from $scriptdir+'\'$prf when scriptdir=c:\Scripts and prf=@lserver\netlogon\sr-kixscripts\outlook.prf. Like I said that path works because my copy command in the script finds the outlook.prf file there. So what am I doing wrong? Do I not supposed to add the + sign or what. I mean I defined both of those variables.

When I posted that, some of your code was not available so the $systemdrive var was coming up empty. With your newly posted code, $prffile would now be:
C:\Scripts\\\DC\Netlogon\sr-kixscripts\outlook.prf
which is still an invalid filespec!

Let me paint you a picture.

$systemdrive = 'C:'
$scriptdir = 'C:\Scripts'
$prf = '\\DC\Netlogon\sr-kixscripts\outlook.prf'

So then, if you concatenate:
$scriptdir+'\'+$prf = 'C:\Scripts\\\DC\Netlogon\sr-kixscripts\outlook.prf'
you have an invalid filespec. I really don't understand why you are concatenating those two vars in the first place because together they do not make up a proper path! There is no way that it can work anywhere else in your script.

Maybe if you see it a few more times it might sink in
C:\Scripts\\\DC\Netlogon\sr-kixscripts\outlook.prf
C:\Scripts\\\DC\Netlogon\sr-kixscripts\outlook.prf
C:\Scripts\\\DC\Netlogon\sr-kixscripts\outlook.prf
C:\Scripts\\\DC\Netlogon\sr-kixscripts\outlook.prf
C:\Scripts\\\DC\Netlogon\sr-kixscripts\outlook.prf
C:\Scripts\\\DC\Netlogon\sr-kixscripts\outlook.prf
C:\Scripts\\\DC\Netlogon\sr-kixscripts\outlook.prf
C:\Scripts\\\DC\Netlogon\sr-kixscripts\outlook.prf
C:\Scripts\\\DC\Netlogon\sr-kixscripts\outlook.prf

Get the picture?

Sorry about jumping in a little late in the game..

You are missing $userwinkey and $machinewinkey.
Code:

$userwinkey='HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows'
$machinewinkey='HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows'

Add this above -
Code:

IF @inwin=1
$profilelocation=$userwinkey+' NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles'
$windir=READVALUE($machinewinkey+' NT\CurrentVersion','SystemRoot')
ENDIF

HTH,
