Hi, I have a problem with running kix scripts.

This is the situation. Company with W2k Sp4. 3 dedicated DC's, 3 DC's more on remote locations. All brand new HP Proliant Servers. 600 users and Workstations are W2k Pro Sp4. All users use the same login.bat and this one starts kix32 login.kix.
From the kix script there are many if ingroup statements.

Now my problem, most of the time the script runs ok, but sometimes the script runs partially or doesn’t run at all. Users complain about missing some or all drive mappings. There is no relation to the user or computer, this occurs random, mainly during morning hours.

When a user logs into the workstation errors appear in the Application log:

Event Id 5 KIXTART UserGetLocalGroups failed, access denied
Event Id 1332 KIXTART GetPrimaryGroup failed, no security mapping between accounts
Event Id 1332 KIXTART LookupAccountSid failed, no security mapping between accounts
Event Id 5 KIXTART UserGetinfo failed, access denied

These errors occur on every login on every workstation. When a user with Admin privileges logs in these errors do not appear.
Of course this is a security issue probably within Active Directory, but I don't where to look for it, and more important I doubt it if this is the cause of not running the login script. The error messages are not my main concern but might have something to do with not running te script.

Does anybody have an idea about this problem?
Thanx
Dan

Dan,

First of all welcome to the board!

Have you tried to search this site? It works pretty well and if you type in 1332 as your search string, you will notice that this has been brought up and discussed many times.

Thanks,

Kent

Thanx Kent,
I have tried searching the forms as you suggested, and i've tried some of the suggestions, but the errors remain. Anyway, these errors are not my main problem, unless they are the cause of the problem of not running or partially running the script. Even with the errors, users are able to login and have all the mappings they need.

I think you have answered your question.. Have you checked the permissions? Maybe it is one DC?

The EventIDs are certainly AD permissions but the inconsistencies are something else. You don't really say how you call your script. It could be the BATch file or how you path. If you use %LOGONSERVER%, try using:
\\domain.com\NetLogon\KiX32.exe \\domain.com\NetLogon\script.kix

It has been reported that sometimes %LOGONSERVER% comes up empty.

The login.bat only has one line
kix32 login.kix
In the documentations I read somewhere that versin 4.22 automatically redirects to the netlogon of the logonserver. If this is not true please tell me, then I will change the batchfile.
What I can't explain is why some users are missing one or two mappings or no mappings at all and when they log off and log on again the problem is solved.

We have already posted various login.bat examples that work in pretty much any environment by calling the Kixtart executable and script via correct fully qualified pathnames. Search for e.g. "logon.bat overkill" or "login.bat".

Make absolutely sure that replication is happening on all servers.

Don't use a batch file, simply run kix32 login.kix for the users script to run.
