This will probably be the first of many posts.....

I've recently taken up a job where Kix is used quite extensively, I have found the .scr files, however the login script appears to be .exe file but I can't find where or even if you can compile kix, any ideas?

You're right, you can't compile KiX scripts. There is an editor (www.kixscripts.com) that performs a facsimile of this functionality. I can't recall if there is a way of extracting the KiX scripts from the exe.

Or it could be a kixcrypt file, can you post the command-line showing how this exe is called, might help us determine what it is.

Extracting the script is child's play. KiXscripts Editor is just a packager. It will toss the text file into a temporary file during execution and delete it when done.

Its simply setup in the login script via User Manager, I'm assuming that its the same script as the main.scr that I've found but who knows eh!! I was about to amend the script to try and copy a file to each client as they logon, but being a .exe made it somewhat more awkward!! So assuming that I'm not gonna get to the bottom of the .exe any coding tips to complete my task ahead of me?

p.s. cheers for the quick response

Hello Azik

So what is the name of the EXE in the users logon field?

From the manual
Quote:

By default, KiXtart automatically looks for a personal script for the current user ("Username.KIX"). If it does not find one, it looks for the default script, "KIXTART.KIX". You can override this behavior by specifying one or more scripts after Kix32.exe on the commandline. If an extension is not specified, KiXtart attempts to use two default extensions: ".KIX" and ".SCR".

KiXtart manual/document is contained within the zip file that comprises the KiXtart release.

Sorry for the delay

The kix files I have located are main.scr, however the login script is apparently a compiled version of this called main.exe. I need to amend the code to force a file copy from the local dc to each client as the user logs on (we're changing the winnt256 file) but I have no idea what it has been compiled with or even what I can compile kix code with *looks hopefully at everyone*

k, simple task for you...

open notepad and open that main.exe in it.
it most likely has some "understandable" words in it.
if you can't with these words get the info, take a copy of winrar or similar and open the exe in it.

these are the 2 easiest ways to get a quickie of what is the coder of the exe.
oh, and ofcourse you could simply try clicking on the exe-properties.
if it's packaged (SFX) it will have another tab for SFX info.
and it propably has something informative on the version tab too.
