Hello, I am looking for advise with trying to run KIX on a stand alone machine (Win 2000 / XP machines). I am looking to run a disclaimer message on 100 laptops. I am able to get the massage up and running after the logon, but ideally would like to run this before logon. Could anyone be really happy and help get me a promotion?
Many Thanks Curious1

You do not need to use KiXtart to display your message. Windows has a built-in mechanism to display a legal message prior the the logon screen. You will need to edit the following keys or use Group Policy to set the message.

the code below is only a fragment to show the keys and values that should be edited.

Code:
Select

Case $OS="WinNT"
$RegKey="HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\winlogon"
Case $OS="Win9x"
$RegKey="HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\winlogon"
EndSelect

; The legal message interferes with the autologon process and therefore will not be installed
; on computers configured for autologon.

$Autologon=ReadValue("$RegKey","AutoAdminLogon")
if @error = 2
$Autologon=0
endif
If $Autologon=0
$RC1=WriteValue($RegKey,"LegalNoticeCaption",$String1,"REG_SZ")
$RC2=WriteValue($RegKey,"LegalNoticeText",$String2,"REG_SZ")
endif

I have completed what was last posted, and unfortunatley the text I have been asked to display is to large for the notice / registry (The text is 1828 characters long). Is there any code / registry value or somewhere else that I could change / enlarge the notice space or include a scroll bar? Regards

Is your problem that the registry will not except the text or the the dialog box will not display it all?

A Google search turned up: http://www.derkeiler.com/Newsgroups/microsoft.public.win2000.security/2003-02/1322.html

You also do not tell what Operating system(s) you are using.

Hi,

Yhe problem is that the amount of text will not completely show up in the dialog box. There is 5 lines short that are viewable when you highlight the text downwards. Ideally I would like all the text to be viewed as one without the need to scroll. The operating system is split 50/50 with w2k and XP pro. I have get it running with KIX and it looks a lot better and also and the YES/NO option, but am unable to get this to run before logon. A solution to either problem would be gratefully recieved. Many Thanks
