Greetings,

Got a couple of questions.
During the login process, I want to be able to spawn off a job to look for a group of files on a hard drive and report that information.

1. Is it possible to spawn a seperate kix file that is not tied to the login script? We want the login script to finish and allow the other script to run. We have considered installing the script on the workstation, but that entails a lot of extra work. Our preference is the logon script if possible.

2. We want to search the entire hard drive for .pst files. When it finds the .pst, it records the filesize to be checked against a size condition (set at 1.5GB). The .pst files that are found on the workstation to exceed 1.5GB will then be noted and sent to the admins in an email.

We have the sendmail portion working, but need some help on the above 2 items.

Can anyone shed some light on this to help us?

Kind Regards,

and finding those files...
check the udf library or the collection at http://www.gwspikval.com/jooel/UDF
there are some dir udf's and IIRC, some of those take the mask (.pst) as option.

hi...thanks for the info! feeling pretty dumb right now...should have known RUN would do the job.

any suggestion on the hard drive search? my guess is I will need an array but arrays are hard for me since I am still learning...
EDIT >> I guess we posted at the same time. Just saw the comment about the UDF library. One of the things that is a real pain in the neck is the registry is locked to the user so the logon script cant access the registry unless we pass the admin account. I just saw a post on encrypting a kix file so I am going to look into that...

only is relevent if we have to search the registry...we need admin access to the registry. we wont pass that info in the clear.

if we are searching the hard drive it should not be an issue for the user logging in since we are only looking for their .pst files.

Edit >> ok, I went through the UDF. I think I am going to play around with the DirList/DirScan. you all are too smart but we love the work...thanks for helping to make things easier for us less edumacated...
