hi all,

this is driving me barmy,
mixture of clients [ though mostly affects win2k/xp pro]

Code:

$x="$$"
$s="\\server_6\"  ; main application server
$u=@userid        ; user's identification      
$Dir=$s+$u+$x     ; combine server & username

SetTime "\\server_6"
Use * /Delete
Use m: "\\server_6\elecbook"
Use p: "\\server_6\data"
Use u: $Dir
Use y: "\\films\nphysics"
Use o: "\\films\films"


all except 'use u:' map consistently. kix version 4.22 or wkix v.4.22 is used ; same result.
yet if i run the script with the /d parameter it works fine.

what else should i be looking at carefully.

on xp pro i have already ensured that the client is forced to wait for the network. it didn't really make any difference.

your feedback appreciated.

Why all the variables? Just try...

ahem, i am more dumber than i really thought i wuz.

on the pdc [nt4] in user manager, user environment profile screen, home directory > i had specified for some groups;
Connect U: \\server_6\%username%$

i am guessing that kixtart then deleted that but couldnt then remap to that drive immediately again.
i solved the problem by 'Connect Z: \\server_6 etc....'
and that worked.

is this a kixtart/ms bug? or am i just doing the wrong thing to start with. anyhoo, i am much happier now.
thankyou for again reminding me to tidy up the script. i will.

With KiXtart versions 4.10 and above:
Variable with zero-length name ('$') is no longer resolved when used inside strings.

So you could change
Use u: "\\server_6\"+@UserID+"$$"

to this

Use u: "\\server_6\"+@UserID+"$"

But if your not using the NoVarInStrings option this "should" work (but have not tried it)

Use u: "\\server_6\@UserID$"

I would try instead:
Use * /Delete

this:
Use * /Delete /persistent

haven't seen lot of discussion about this anymore but some years back it was on the lips.
