There are a lot of reasons why so many people are having problems with InGroup(), many of which we will never know the reason since they often do not post back. I can say that there are lots of sites that have no problem whatsoever.
Some of the reasons for failure:
Group cache
Poor scripting (i.e. missing quotes)
Old version of KiX
Network config not optimized
Long group names
Special characters in group names
You say you may have to revert to VB. Are you sure you don't mean VBS? There are COM methods that can be used in KiX just like in VBS.
