Quick question, but I guess complicated answer.

How do I get the current cursor position in the Kixtart console window?

Constraints: I will not know the title of the console window and I cannot keep track of the cursor positions.

I will need the position of the cursor after an arbitrary output.

Does somebody have any idea?

Jens

It sounds almost as impossible as some of my users' requests. i.e. "I lost my file. I don't know what I named it or where I put it but I'd recognize it if I saw it. Can you restore it from tape?"

Sorry, had to vent. After all, I can't with my users. They're always right, you know.

Seriously though, I haven't a clue. But sounds like a good topic for the Suggestion forum. At the least this will bubble this thread back to the top.

As I said, I'm not even sure if it is possible at all. Thus, I'm currently rewriting my output function to return the cursor position in the return code. At least I'm using a UDF for this, so it's not that complicated.

Jens,
I know there are some people that would like to make KIX into a full fledged programming language while others say "keep it simple", yet you make a good point. The following would probably be useful, perhaps some already exist (I'm no expert):

A function to set the cursor position
A macro to get the cursor position
A function to scrape the screen (get character at position x,y)
The ability to control scrolling (scroll-lock)

Then again, the ability to do some of this on a GUI MessageBox() would be cool as well.

I haven't done any of that sort of coding since the late 80's but my memory's starting to trickle back in fragments.
