I have been using Kixtart for a while with Win95, 98, and 2000 machines and have been very pleased. I am now trying to use it on a few XP machines and have run in to a very strange problem. I am running 4.22 by putting "KIX32.EXE LOGON.KIX" in the login script box in the user profile. This XP machine I set up works fine when I sign on as Administrator. When I sign on as the user the script is running but no drives are being mapped. I signed on as another user and got the drives to map. Went back and signed on as the first user and go no drive mappings. Any thoughts? I have all the latest patches on XP and I set the policy to wait on the network that I found in other posts.

Well...Since we have no idea how you are mapping the drives I dont think there is much we can do for you. Maybe if you post the script you will get more help. Are you mapping according to group membership or something? Or does is just map the same drives for everyone?

Run it in debug to see what is going on. Try flushing the cache.

I did run it in debug mode and everything looks like it is running OK. I am not sure what you mean about flushing the cache but I have shut the pc down and started it up with the same results. I saw something about the @ERROR and @SERROR functions and will see if that does anything.

Run the script with a /F switch and it will flush the cached group memberships. This will of course only help if you are using group memberships to map the drives in the first place.

Well, this is getting weirder. The drives will not map in the login script. I went to My Computer and clicked on Tools | Map Network Drive. When I hit the down arrow by drive letter the drives I am trying to map in the login script show up already mapped! They do not show up in the My Computer window.

In your script, do a USE $Drive /Delete /Persistent before you map the share.

Just for grins I went in and deleted this user's local profile on this machine. I logged back in as him and when Kixtart ran it mapped everything just fine. Oh well, I don't understand but I'm glad its working now!

When you deleted the user's profile, you also deleted the HKCU registry hive which stores the persistent drive mappings. The USE /DELETE /PERSISTENT would have achieved the same in a less destructive way, as you've been told to do.

I also have had problems on WinXP with drives disappearing. They seem to still be mapped but they are not displayed in My Computer. This is more than likely an XP bug than a kixscript problem.
