Can anyone help me, I am setting up a 2003 network with a mix of 98,w2k and xp clients.
the problem I am having is mapping the win98 network printers, I want to map based on group membership and will have one default printer and maybe up to 2 other printers mapped to each group.

I have seen a couple of posts about this but all seemed at some point to use commands such as addprinterconnection which are not supported on 98.

I was hoping that someone was going to tell me I was stupid and point me to a nice simple command but at least if I know its not possible I can stop trying to make it do something it can't

You can however, try the following (have not tried it personally ):
Add Printer on 9x clients!

However, when combining this with groupmembership, printers get constantly installed/uninstalled. I'd rather just get rid of the legacy Win9x computers.

Thanks for the replies.

Kdyer I did look at this script but it has an addprinterconection command which does't work on w98.

Sealeopard I would like to get rid of the 98 clients but with about 200 of them its an expensive option.

I will give VB a go and see if I can get the results I need that way

The script Kent pointed to you to works on Win98. If you take a colser look at the code, you will see that there is an ELSE between the AddPrinterConnection() and @InWin.

I hate Wintendos and refuse to support them but the script is written for them.

Les is correct.. Like Les states, we as a whole do not have any 9x systems in house anymore. Look into the code more and you will see it utilizes SENDKEYS to add in printers..

Keep going down to the line -
Code:

RUN "rundll32.exe shell32.dll,SHHelpShortcuts_RunDLL AddPrinter"

Because in the code it does the test to see that you are in Windows NT first and if not, it goes on to Windows 9x.
