Recentrly I have been doing some tests on Winzip installation throught the network and had to make some questions to Winzip help cause it is suggested to uninstall before updating to 9.0. This might be helpfull.

Winzip response to silent uninstall and Command Line Support Add-On silent instalation.

Quote:

While removal of the software is suggested, it is not in fact actually
required.

WinZip 8.1 -only- will accept the /quninstall switch when executed from
the command line, which will remove the software without further action;
prior releases accept only the /uninstall switch, which does produce a
confirmation dialog.

While there's no option for installing the WinZip Command Line Support
Add-On in an unattended operation, please note that installation is not
actually required. You can simply open the WZCLINE installation file
using WinZip, extract the contents, then copy the extracted files to the
WinZip program folder, typically, C:\program files\winzip. The add on
is recognized as registered when placed with a registered copy of WinZip
itself.

One that I always liked to use - PowerArchiver..

Last Freeware version - http://www.woundedmoon.org/win32/powerarc611.html

Here are some others that may interest you:
Archives: Zip-Unzip. ZipGenius listed is sloppy in it's uninstall, but has a slick interface.

One that shows some promise is A43 (file manager), but has a Zipper built-in - http://www.shawneelink.net/~bgmiller/ .

The one thing I find annoying when WinZip installs and sets up for the client is the quick pick tray..

And it's all documented on the Winzip website under How do I install WinZip site licenses in a networked environment?

OK.. I will have to try it. However, we install WinZip as an install on our base image for Ghost.

Okay... this is what the site says:
Quote:

Any changes that a particular user makes in WinZip's configuration will be stored only in the HKCU key. When a person who has not previously used WinZip on this machine (i.e., the WinZip HKCU does not exist) runs WinZip for the first time, WinZip will silently copy the HKLM key into that user's HKCU. Previous versions of WinZip would have activated WinZip's install wizard in this situation. This new feature should make most uses of AUTOINST.TXT (described below) unnecessary.

So it seems fixed in version 9

Very cool. Because I did try the /noqp switch before and it appeared fine for that profile, but any new profiles would install the QuickPick..
