There seems to be a bug that disallows reading a local registry key using the machines IP address. Using the machines computer name works fine. This only seems to occur on Win2k Server SP4. The code below demonstrates the problem...If ran on a Win2k Server w/ SP4 you will not getting anything for the $test2 variable.

Code:
$test1 = ReadValue ("\\"+@WkSta+"\HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion","ProductName")
$ip = join(split(@IPADDRESS0,' '),'')
$test2 = ReadValue ("\\"+$ip+"\HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion","ProductName")

? "Read using "+@WkSta+" - "+$test1
? "Read using "+$ip+" - "+$test2

?
? "DONE"
get $

This problem occurs in both kix 4.22 and the private beta release of 4.5. So Im not so sure it's a Beta problem so to say...Just didnt know where else to post it.

Think there must be some issue with your system or server. I tested this on Windows 2000 Advanced Server w/SP4 English and I also tested this on Windows 2003 Advanced Server English as well as Windows XP SP1 English

It worked just fine on all of them.

Did you try it on regular (non-advanced) server?

I do! I do! The other weird thing is that if I read the registry via the server IP but from a remote machine...It works fine. It is only when I am on the server itself and point to its own IP address that I have the problem. It has only occurred on two servers (which both happen to have SP4) and not on any others Ive tried it on. Thats what makes me think its a bug.

I was working on a 2003 Appliance server last night. Talk about weird.
