Hi,

I'm setting up printers using AddPrinterConnection from a XP Pro Machine, the printers are on a NT Server. The drivers on the server are not compatable with XP so I would like the computer to use the local drivers.

Is there any enhancements to the function to do this?

Do you need to? A Pc will only use the server driver if there is a problem with the driver already installed on the local machine. If its XP I would assume that it has already got the drivers installed.

No, ADDPRINTERCONNECTION requires the print server to provide the correct printer drivers to the client. You can install additional printer drivers for Windows 2000/XP support on the print server.

How do you do that in case of external printservers?

How do you define "external printserver" ? ADDPRINTERCONNECTION works with a Windows/NT/2000/XP/2003-based print server. That computer needs to have all relevant print drivers for all connection operating systems installed in order to be able to download the printer drivers.

External hardware printservers, like the HP Jetdirect.

What does this have to do with ADDPRINTERCONNECTION?
Quote:

AddPrinterConnection( )

This function is available only on Windows NT family, and can be used only to connect to printers on a server running the Windows NT/2000/XP operating system.
When Windows NT connects to the printer, it may copy printer driver files to the local computer. If the user does not have permission to copy files to the appropriate location, ADDPRINTERCONNECTION fails, and @ERROR returns ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED.

ADDPRINTERCONNECTION does not work directly with printservers like HP JetDirect, only with Windows-based printservers. To utilize ADDPRINTERCONNECTION, you'd have to create a Windows-based print server that connects to the JetDirect and then shares that printer to clients. Clients can then connect to the Windows-based print server for their printing needs.
