Hi,
Ive written a simple form that displays the schools policy and requires them to click yes or no before running (or not) internet explorer.
My desktops icons are loaded from the server these work fine, however windows seems to insist on creating an additional desktop icon for internet explorer on the desktop. This icon is not a shortcut however. Is their any way I can remove it? Here is my form (just in case It interests anyone!)
Code:
Setconsole("Hide")
Break On
$Form = CreateObject("Kixtart.Form")
$Form.Text = "Internet Usage Policy "
$Form.Size = 380,420
$TextBox1 = $Form.TextBox("By clicking the 'YES I AGREE
BUTTON' this states that you are agreeing to the following
conditions: The aim of this document is to guide staff and
pupils when using ICT to ensure that they are complying
with the rules stipulated in the following statement. The
rules of usage must be adhered to as there may be actions
taken against those individuals. This statement is also
designed to protect pupils, staff and the school when using
ICT. The use of a computer system without permission or for
a purpose not agreed by the school, could constitute a
criminal offence under the Computer Misuse Act 1990.For
this reason the following usage of computer equipment is
deemed illegal and could lead to disciplinary action or
even prosecution, this includes; pornography, incitement to
racial hatred, threatening/solicitous emails, chat rooms,
and any other material that may be considered
contentious.Access must only be made by the individuals
authorised account and password, which must not be given to
any other person. The individual must also ensure that
he/she logs off the system correctly and does not leave the
computer logged on and unattended. School computer and
Internet use must be appropriate to the students education
or to staff professional activity during lessons. Personal
use of email/internet by staff should be agreed by their
line manager, during school hours. Students must not
procure material from the system and claim this it falsely
as their own. Software must not be copied unless licensing
allows this and copies must only be made by the ICT
department. All users must be responsible for reporting to
the ICT department any sites or materials that are deemed
in conflict with this policy. All downloading of programs
unless advised by the ICT department is prohibited.
Anonymous messages and chain letters must not be sent.
Holte Schools computer systems should not be compromised by
individuals or groups from within or outside of the school.
Examples include hacking and copying unauthoried
information. Students should not gamble or partake in any
financial transactions online. The school Internet or email
facilities should not be used for personal or financial
gain, political purposes or advertising. When accessing the
schools systems outside of normal working hours, (including
from home) this policy should also be adhered
to.",40,100,300,200)
$Textbox1.MultiLine = true
$Textbox1.ScrollBars = 3
$Textbox1.Fontsize = 10
$Label1 = $Form.Label("Responsible Internet Use",90,50,200,50)
$Label1.Fontsize = 12
$Button2 = $Form.Button("Yes I agree",50,340,100,30)
$Button2.OnClick = "Button2_Click()"
$Button1 = $Form.Button("No I do not agree", 210,340,100,30)
$Button1.OnClick = "Button1_Click()"
$Form.Center
$Form.Show
While $Form.Visible
$=Execute($Form.DoEvents)
Loop
Quit()
Function Button2_Click
RUN "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"
quit
EndFunction
Function Button1_Click
quit
EndFunction
EXIT

Steve

You can certainly trim down the long line as it makes this post difficult to follow.
If memory serves, you can do this in GPO/LGPO..

Since it appears you want all access to IE to occur through your special link, you will always want to suppress the display of the special IE system icon on the desktop, perhaps replacing it with a standard shortcut to your program. As Kent says, you can suppress the icon display by GPO. If you'd rather not use Group Policies (though I certainly recommend them if possible!), you can also turn off the icon display directly by a registry entry--see Hide the Internet Explorer Icon. Doing it through a registry entry rather than by GPO, the setting may not take effect until the user logs off and back on (that is, removing the IE icon that way, it may still show for the first session). It's the equivalent of going into Internet Options, Advanced, and (un)checking "Show Internet Explorer on the desktop," so if you're not doing it by GPO, be sure you've restricted students' ability to turn this back on in Internet Options.

Joe beat me to it. I got the edit from the same place...Just the D/Led version.
I would recommend everyone download the free registry guide from theat link Joe provided. It has almost every desktop tweak imaginable.
