Does anyone , know of a script or util that will allow the following.

Take a file/folder snapshot of a complete server of all files and there size.

Then say the next day run the script/util again and it will produce a report of how many files have changes & give the total amount of data changed from the previous snapshot?

if you understand that your doing good

The easy way to do this is to shell a "DIR /S" and store the results in an INI file. Do the same thing the next day and compare the values.

This is going to be very very slow though.

Maybe there is a better solution - what is it you are trying achieve?

ROBOCOPY could be used with the /L switch to run it in logging-only mode.

Alternatively, this is easily coded with KiXtart and existing UDFs that are already published in the UDF Forum.

What I'm trying to achive is a way to produce a report of servers that i can have report the numbers of files changed since last snapshot and the total amount of data that has changed per server.

The problem is that this will take a very long time to run across an entire server.

You might be better off switching on file system auditing, dump the security log and parse that.

ok here we go....

it needs to on day 1 count all the files and calculate the total data size.

On Day 2 , check each files creation date & last written time, and size . counting as it scans through all the folders and toting up total number of new files , total number of files that have changes & total data size.

Now with that information it can produce, total number of files, New files, Num of files that have changed & total amount of data growth.

Sound correct. So no need to keep any file information, just totals.

ok now script to do it...argh....
