b.binnenweg b.binnenweg Fresh Scripter Registered: 2001-10-07 Posts: 6	I would like to limit the time a local windows xp user can use his system (for example 1 hour a day), there is no domain to log on. What kind of script could ik use to accomplish this?

Sealeopard Sealeopard KiX Master Registered: 2001-04-25 Posts: 11165 Loc: Boston, MA, USA	This is actually not an easy task as you need to measure the time the user is logged into the computer. However, it is doable via KiXtart. Create a KiXtart script that does the following: Check the eventlog for login events fo the monitored users (you need to enable login auditing) Measure the time the user has been logged in including any previous times for the same day as written into a registry key. If the user logs out write the time the user has been logged in into a registry key including date. If the user is logged in longer than the allowed time, then issue a local user logoff command and write the time the user has been logged in into a registry key including date. Finally, run the script via WKIX32 and SRVANY.EXE from the Windows Resource Kit as a service under an admin account. Alternatively, get/purchase any of the commercial packages that accomplish the same, see for example http://dmoz.org/Computers/Software/Shareware/Windows/Security/Parental_Control/ _________________________ There are two types of vessels, submarines and targets.

I thought he wanted logon time restrictions like what is available in a domain, that is a specific hour. You interpret it is one anytime cumulative hour in a 24 hour period. Jack Lothian Jack Lothian MM club member Registered: 1999-10-22 Posts: 1169 Loc: Ottawa,Ontario, Canada	We use to use a freeware utility called poltergeist to do this something like this, although we used it to automatically shutdown systems at specific times in the day. I am not sure it still exists or if it is still freeware but you might try searching various freeware/shareware sites for similar utilities. _________________________ Jack

Give ENUFF a try. Unless you are a very advanced system programmer you will not be able to easily surpass it.
