hi guys, I am trying to come up with a kix script for a nt 4 domain with nt/2000/xp/98 clients. Users connect to a citrix farm.
Problem: profiles are being stored locally on the Citrix server that the they log on to instead of specific server dedicated to store profiles only. \\servername>\profiles\.

I'm hoping someone can help me with the following:
A script to create home directory \\\%USERNAME%$ and the profile path \\\%USERNAME%-p$ (on the PDC) automatically when clients logon to Citrix Farm. I'm not very familiar with writing scripts so, please help!!! Thanks.

So you want everyone to have access to the share where the profiles will be kept? Because if I understand you correctly that would be the only way could create their folder when logged in. Dont you also have to be a domain admin to change the profile settings for a user? Are all of your users domain admins?

Shane, thanks for responding. Yes, everyone will have access to the (hidden) share where the profiles are located. So, when a user logs on to the citrix farm, their profile gets pulled from \\<servername>\%USERNAME%-p$ to the citrix server they are logged on in the farm.
As for the profile settings, I currently setup each user mailbox and default file location (to store their own files). Would be nice if I can set that up also...but no biggie!!
Thanks again

I think that the creation of the profile dirs and the shares would require admin privs on the terminal server. Scary thought.

Why not use an admin script that enumerates the usernames in the domain, and creates the appropriate profiles and shares?

Jens, will the script create the home directory and user profile on a designated server when clients logon to Citrix Farm? I don't even know where to begin! Do you have such a script? Thanks

So, what you are saying is that there is no way to directly redirect the Citrix profiles? Anyway, I'd create the user directories when I create the user. However, as I do not have any experience with Citrix i'm not sure how Citrix handles the user profile creation.

The home directory does not have to be on the server oin the Citrix farm. This sounds like something you should not do. Create all the directories and shares on a file/print server and have the user connect to there when logging on.

Howard, that's exactly what I'm trying to do....create the directories (home and user profile) shares (hidden) on a file server. How do I do it? Can you please send or direct me where I can find a script like this? Thanks in advance.

Go to the terminal Services tab of AD users and Computers and you should be able to do this en-masse. If this does not cover it, try Hyena.. You should never have the client create their directory, it should be controlled via User Management.

There are a couple of scripts that have been fiddled with here for Citrix Profiles. I have created a Roaming profiles clean-up script.. You may want to look at this one as it may cover some more of what you are looking for - http://www.rgcweb.org/kix/

But then again, you need to create the folders. I have done this.. If you have a list of users, you can pipe them in and do a NET SHARE from the server console.

Yes, Hyena can do it "en masse" but ADUC cannot. There is a DLL from M$ and Howard also has one that exposes the TS properties to ADSI/COM to script via KiX.

I'm coming to this a bit last, so apologies if I'm missing something here.

Citrix roaming profiles are no different to standard NT roaming profiles.

Create a (single) share for your profiles on your file server called say "\\myserver\profiles$". Assign permissions so that your system accounts which will read/write the profiles have full permissions. Set your users' profile en-masse to be "\\myserver\profiles$\%USERNAME%"

The system will look after creating the directories, you don't need to worry about it.

[edit]
Whoops! missed the "create automatically" bit. Bad idea. Really really bad idea. Just don't do it.

Thanks for your input. I'll look at the resources you have supplied me with. I'll get back to you guys, if I run into more problems/questions (which I probably will, as I'm very new at this). Thanks

...looked at kix script for citrix configuration (http://www.rgcweb.org/kix/). Understood some.....I still need major help! Not sure how I can modify the script to do what I need it to do. Can anyone please HELP? If the script can just do the two thing I need, I'll be happy:) Thanks much
