Well, another slow weekend on KORG. Was wondering if anyone had any comments, cudos or indifference about the new BBS after our first full week of operation ... or any other comments about anything else for that matter.

Some real mixed feelings...

sickened about all the broken old links
Maybe a translate table could be built.

sad to lose the "Today's" view - without duplicate hits and with body preview
There are lots of good mods available that would fix that.

miss the search on member number
Maybe there is a custom template that could get that back.

gotta do something about the edit expiry
The document lists a configuration setting for this. Wonder if it can be set to never?

miss the ability to read the entire thread while composing a reply
For a work-around, can right-click 'Reply' and 'Open in new window'.

love the ...SPEED

love the search ...SPEED

like the quick search at the bottom of the forum page

no more noobie accidental polls
YES!

sort stuff is cool

user settable skins and sooo many more options are cool

many many more cool stuff...

One can "Show all user's posts " from the profile screen of a user.

http://www.kixtart.org/ubbthreads/dosearch.php?Cat=&Forum=All_Forums&Words=3166&Match=Username&Searchpage=0&Limit=25&Old=allposts

Just change out the number 3166 for the one you want.

Howard,
Is this your answer to "miss the search on member number"? If so then not the same... way too many hits. I used to search for an answer where I remembered who posted it.

If you look at the parms passed to dosearch.php, you see '&match=Username' so the option must be in the code, just not exposed.

HEHEE
I see MCA discovered the thread rating system and shamelessly gave several of his topics five stars.

Anyone notice that it makes a difference which 'Reply' button you hit? In your reply, it will use the name of whoever's post (or reply) you reply to. F.E. I replied to Shawn's, hence the [Re:Shawn] above. The one before this one, I replied to Howard. Since it looks like you are reacting to that individual's comments and perhaps not the originator of the thread, you need to be careful there.

Hence the term "threads" I guess ... Guess a "topic" can sorta spin-off multiple threads of discussion, which might be OK around here since we do have a habit of getting side-tracked and off-topic

ja, to really get the effect of this multi-threaded thing, you have to switch from flat to threaded view. This also explains Howards question about the unintuitive layout in threaded view. If ppl don't use the correct 'Repl' button, they will really mess up the thread.

The other thing is the ability to change the 'Subject' down the thread as I did here. When you view the 'recent messages' or the 'last post', you wmay not notice that it is related to the parent topic.

Les,

Voted for you. Didn't help though.

PS: Does anyone know if you can turn these stars off. I never liked them.

PS2: I noticed the decline in vistors before the switch over. It seems every now & then it picks for a week or so but then settles back to the low level. I am not sure what the cause might be.

I know I come and go in spurts - it is usually determined by work and time comitments.

Because I work mainly with websites, KIX is not my first choice.

Also, I sometimes just lurk and see what is going on.
