You are right, but the word came out of a different context ... guess I can shed some light on the story, it was funny at the time but just kinda grew.
Me and Jooel were having one of our many MSN chats one day (actually we were probably talking about forms or checker specifically) but we got into a difference of opinion or something and the chat kinda went dead. Jooel must have been cursing under his breath because after a long pause I get this message:
Jooel says:
"Basta!"
When I saw that I laughed out loud but didn't respond ... then, after a few more minutes in comes another message:
Jooel says:
"Ryhmes"
Basta Ryhmes being a play on the Rap singer known as Bust-a-Ryhmes. When I saw the "Ryhmes" part I rolled on the floor laughing. Jooel has this funny way about him. He can insult you without you getting mad ! Jooel can say things that most other people would get flammed for. He just has "that way" about him (imho).
Anyways, so Basta Ryhmes kinda just started making its way into our daily conversations ... then it just got shortened to Basta. Then the avitars started and it just kinda balooned from there.
If you google Basta it does have meaning in fact, its an ancient word that has many meanings ... In turkish I beleive it means "number one!" ... In Italian it means "Enough is enough" ... having said that, will end the story now.
