I think we worked ourselves out of a job. Between the FAQ & UDF forums and all the great content here, no one needs to post any questions.

I just had to.. Well, I even broke a couple of rules today and found a web-based MSN program as Corporate does not allow MSN Messenger.. Being down is always noted. It like you or me.. We can do a great job at work for 50 years, but one screw up and it is a big black smudge.

Oww..

Looks like they don't even want you on MSN. Just got a maintenance message from MSN.

So where did you find the web client?

Found a couple of 'em Googling..

http://everywhere-msn.com/ is the only one I could get into.

http://wbmsn.com is supposed to be pretty good.

it's quite hard to have posters if only
90% trials only get any response from server.
80% of those can succesfully register.
70% of those try to post
60% of those are able to post
50% of those anyway are already angry about board beeing screwed so they yell at us and,
40% of those get bad reply from us and,
30% of those never get here again.

if you look my chart, I think you might agree with something in it.
at least with working server we might stand a change.

How do you know that these web based front ends aren't harvesting your passport email addresses and passwords? They might say they don't collect passwords, but those email addresses could be being sold on to spammers or worse (whatever that might be).

Call me paranoid if you want, but I wouldn't touch such a service with a bargepole.

Cheers,

Phil

So.. What is the big deal? I use my Hotmail as a "garbage" dump anyway. If I don't like who I am giving my e-mail addy to, I give my Hotmail addy. I don't see this being a big deal. If I got truly scared, it is a simple matter of changing the password anyway.

The other problem I have/had is that Corporate does not and will not allow MSN Messenger in the workplace. Yes, we have tried it on different ports, etc. but is disabled altogether. That is including trying to use an application like Trillian..

You can also find some pretty slick stuff for MSN (as well as the web links for web-based MSN above) at - http://msnfanatic.com .

You are 100% correct, but if I use it to be part of my job function, then.. Sure, it is breaking the rules, but I wanted to find out anything about KORG being off-line yesterday.

This was an extreme step and probably should not be duplicated by others.

we indeed might need a snitz board or similar for a backup for regulars.
or just a cgi on a some server to handle KorgMessenger requests and such [Wink]

that would allow bbC to become a multi-purpose toolkit too... [Razz]

I like the idea of going to Snitz.. IIRC, they have instructions to run under MySQL.

2 observations:

First, I have noticed that frequently around 10 a.m EST to 12 a.m. EST the board is hopeless. Just to view the titles of the current posts can take several minutes. Other times, especially during our evenings, the board is very responsive. If these slow periods corresponds to peak work hours, it may be discouraging many posters.

Second, I think kixtart may have an advertizing problem. Who knows about it? It seems to me it is driven by word of mouth. Additionally, there is a lot more competition out there. Without advertizing kixtart's role may be marginal.
