To be honest, I don't like any page that requires me to install anything, whether it's Flash, Java, JavaScript, or other things.

I prefer plain HTML/XML for the client side.

And KiXtart doesn't need anything fancy to attract people with regards to the website. You go to the website to find information and not to see how one can navigate via Flash.

KiXtart and KiXforms, however, need constant championing in the enterprise so that decision-makers realize that there's an efficient and effective alternative to VBscript as login or management script.

Jens,

I agree with you.

However, the imagemap does need to go. Simple links would suffice.

A flash movie of how to implement KiXtart would be awesome. What a great idea for a tutorial. If you think about it, you could generate a Flash movie that would be about 100K in size where other methods would be 6MB for the same content.

That might be a good idea for a separate page, e.g. "KiXtart Setup Tutorial".

Jens:
If something is made in flash is not gonna be that particular movie that will force you to update the player, its gonna be the amount of pages you will not see if you dont.
Flash came up cause its "fancy" and actual, images(HTML) can be cool too with imagination.

The only problem with adding too much graphics is the additional bloat that this could cause. I'm sure most of us just go directly to the forum page, so it wouldn't be too much of an additional load that this would cause. I'd be curious to see what kind of hits the main page gets compared to the forum main page.

that would indeed be something to see.
afaik, the forum page sees about 10-100 times the amount of hits the mainpage does.

Creativity is flowing now..

Maybe take some of the most common issues:
  • W9x and KXRPC - How to install and setup the service
  • W9x and DLLs - Insure that the DLLs exist and of proper verison.
  • How to work with Strings and Vars?
  • How to debug? Why does the screen flash for a second?
  • Servers - How do I install?
  • Workstations - How do I install?
  • Printers - NT/2k/XP
  • Drives - How to map?
I am sure we could whittle this down or start with this..
Thanks,

Kent

About the timeline Kent Fe. You have thought it should be motioned (self explainer) or kinda browsed to choose subject (buttons), scroll and stuff ??

What I was thinking is something that can pick up the data updates with no need to touch the movie just a couple of txt arround so the movie is kept as browser or something...just thinking loud.

kent, yes.
those are good ideas.
but, as long as the base look and feel is what it is, those can't ever be done.

the base needs to be changed first.
once that's done, the information can be more freely added and updated.

don't take me wrong, I bleed for proper site.
but without the new style base, there is nothing one can do.

gonna be today avail for chat?

masken, you said bad.
but that's true.
specially when all those users don't post anything else than: "damn, the board is slow" and then keep hitting the F5 to make it yet slower.
