Hi All

I have created a complete silent pacakge of IE with SP1, I am trying to deploy it by ScheduleTask() UDF by Jens this installation is trying to intract with the user desktop and crashing in IE6WZD.EXE (Dr.Watson) this issue is only with NT4 my W2k boxes are working well. can I start IE installation without starting this IE6WZD.exe ? I tried with all switches i.e /Q /Q:A no use
If I run the pacakge manuelly it dosent show up any wizard but why it is trying to start wizard threw tsk scheduler ?

Any Ideas ?? [Confused]

Do you not call IE6SETUP.EXE? Do you run it under an administrative account? Did you select to perform a completely silent install with all user interactions disabled?

Also, are you sure your NT boxes are up-to-date on Windows Install and WMI? Service Pack 6 is not enough.

IE6 does not require WMI.

I decided to drop by.
I have IEAK package too.
and indeed, with NT sp6a you need to do more than jus install it.
double boot can take place.
and sometimes, the package crashes.

w2k and XP work fine.
I don't mind as I think I have nowadays about 2 nt-machines anymore...

you could try checking your windows installer version but don't think that makes the difference.
have had it upgraded and still got errors.

think it's some sorta thing they didn't tell us.
it does not support NT as example.

How can I convert ie6setup.exe to windows installer version is there any utility for that ?

It is working fine when I run it manulley from NT PC's i.e when I logged into the PC and run the setup, It crashing only when I am running threw task scheduler. I trying to run the setup by task scheduler using my account.

put it in AT and let it run interactive.
then stay logged on the machine.
does it crash then?
does it say anything?
does it write to eventlog?

windows installer is it's own package.
btw, think I had similar issues with off2k install too (which installs IE5 if not present)

IIRC, when you install IE, you have to restart the system.

Are you doing a restart?

If you cannot install the MSI files as Jooel suggests, some things come to mind -
  • Are your NT Clients on SP6a?
  • Can you install other updates/patches from http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com ?
  • Are you trying to install the MSI on the system with Administrative privileges or context?
  • Have tried this on more than one box?
  • Is disk space a concern?
HTH,
Kent

I dont have any problem with MSi installation, The problem is with deploying IE threw taskscheduler() by Jens pls read my first posting.

All my NT PC's are sp6a this is happening with my all NT pc's. This way of deployment working fine on W2k.
