The credit for this really goes to Jochen, but would like submit that we add the following two new terms to the Kixtart Lexicon:
SplitJoining
Etymology: Dutch splitten, from Middle Dutch; akin to Middle High German splIzen to split and probably to Old High German spaltan to split and Middle English, from Old French joindre, from Latin jungere. Date: 1593
Transitive senses: The act of dividing lengthwise usually along a grain or seam or by layers and then to put back together to form a unit.
Example: Jens had a beautiful example of this other day:
$Path ='C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\'
$NewPath = join(split($Path,'\'),'\\')
The resultant string is:
C:\\Documents and Settings\\All Users\\Start Menu\\Programs\\
Would like to submit the term JoinSplitting as well, but really cant think of a good example of that ... anyone ?

You don't want to confused with french canadians because your are in Montreal??
Or you are French Canadian, and not in a 'French' region??
I don't know a great deal about Canada, other that they have a HUGE shopping mall and Liquor is very expensive...

Here is one for the yanks..
quote: Saturday the Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge will celebrate its sixth annual Buffalo Day.
Activities will begin at the Prairie Learning Center at 10 a.m. and end at 3 p.m. This event honors the large animals that once roamed our prairies. Area residents are invited to bring friends and family to view the herd of more than 38 buffalo and 19 elk. The first 500 visitors will receive a free buffalo nickel.
Activities will include arts and crafts, demonstrations of pottery making, flint knapping, hide scraping, hikes, storytelling, bus tours, and guest presentations. Native American flute music will entertain all ages. The Newton Jaycees will sell buffalo burgers and hot dogs. A buffalo-chip throwing contest will complete the day's activities.
The judging of the buffalo photo contest will be held at noon.
For more information call the Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge at (515)994-3400 or check www.tallgrass.org. The refuge is located just south of Prairie City. To reach the Prairie Learning Center, take exit 18 off of Iowa Highway 163.

Hmmm ... One for the road :
quote: The lighthouse station called Arctowski is probably the most southerly lighthouse in the world. Built at the Polish research station in Antarctica named after Henryk Arctowski, the famous 19th century Polish geographer and Antarctic explorer. Situated on King George Island in the South Shetlands group, its geographical position is 62o10'S, 58o28'W. The following is the transcript of the actual radio conversation of a US naval ship with Canadian authorities off the coast of Newfoundland:
Canadians: Please divert your course 15 degrees the South to avoid a collision.
Americans: Recommend you divert your course 15 degrees the North to avoid a collision.
Canadians: Negative. You will have to divert your course 15 degrees to the South to avoid a collision.
Americans: This is the Captain of a US Navy ship. I say again, divert YOUR course.
Canadians: No. I say again, you divert YOUR course.
Americans: THIS IS THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER USS LINCOLN, THE SECOND LARGEST SHIP IN THE UNITED STATES' ATLANTIC FLEET. WE ARE ACCOMPANIED BY THREE DESTROYERS, THREE CRUISERS AND NUMEROUS SUPPORT VESSELS. I DEMAND THAT YOU CHANGE YOUR COURSE 15 DEGREES NORTH, I SAY AGAIN, THAT'S ONE FIVE DEGREES NORTH, OR COUNTER-MEASURES WILL BE UNDERTAKEN TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THIS SHIP.
Canadians: This is a lighthouse, over...

That does pretty much sum up the American philisophy...
I noticed when in Germany, many of the roads looked like the road construction crew followed a sheep around the countryside, as no road could go 1 kilometer without have a curve or turn. I recall thinking to my self, as I was driving around curve in the road, (where the street went around a single tree in an open field) that Germans either can't drive in a straight line or that they are taking schnapps into account and are building the road under where the driver will wander off to.
Contrasting to Americans, where if they can't go over it, push it down, blow it up, they will drive a tunnel through it (as long as they can blow up pieces of it)
