Problem with clipart.
The situation is;
Windows 2000 pro, Office 2000 SR1. Windows 2000 server running active directory. Users homedrive is in the format \\server\user$ , the users have a home drive set in active directory such that H: connects to \\server\user$
Users run a mandatory profile from the server. The mandatory profile redirects the following to the users home drive (H:\)
Desktop h:\windows\desktop Application Data h:\windows\application data Favorities h:\windows\favorities
The problem: We have just changed the home share so that it supports only one connection. Now when we open clipart from word we get an error:
An unspecified error has occurred. Clip Gallery could not complete the operation. For more information, Press F1 now and see Troubleshooting in Clip Gallery Help.
When we increase the number of connections to the home share to 2, clip art works. clip art is trying to open artgal.mmc from \\server\user$\windows\Application Data\ Microsoft\Media Catalog\artgal50.mmc <\\server\user$\windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Catalog\artgal50.mmc>
There are no registry keys that reference clipart on the PC (in HKLM or resulting Users HKCU) by drive letter or UNC path.
Finally, strange as it may seem ;-) MS engineers have promised to come back to us on this but have not - been waiting about a week.
Can anyone offer suggestions? I use kixscript so thought this might be a suitable arena for publication of this plea but there again, a MS Bulletin Board could be just as good perhaps. As I don't use a MS bulletin board would accept a suitable reference to one if that is all the help that is available.
Thank you for taking the time to read this lengthy posting.

I am in a school situation which is quite hostile. I need to ensure a user can only login once with their AD ID. The suggested Kix recommendation I received in the forum a few months ago was to limit their homeshare to one. If this is not available to map (because it is already in use) I log the user off.

Just thought of another (simpler) solution that may work for you.
- Allow two connections per share.
- Map the H: drive as normal, logoff is mapping fails.
- Connect to the share via UNC, logoff if fails.
If the user attempts to connect twice this process should create an absolute minumum of 3 share connections so will fail.

Another thought comes to mind from the MetaFrame world - close out inactive users too. Say after 30-45 minutes of inactivity.

Thank you all for such marvellous advice. In particular, I'd like to thank Richard H for the very simple, obvious solution which works a treat:
Allow two connections per share. Map the H: drive as normal, logoff if mapping fails. Connect to the share via UNC, logoff if fails.
I just by-and-large added : Use \\server\%username%$ to my kix scripts along with other modifications suggested and all works fine.
Appreciate the valuable assistance.

Brian,
Why do this?
Use \\server\%username%$
Why not do -
Use "\\server\"+@userid+"$$"
This should work better.

Many thanks NTDOC. I've read through those links and appreciate the time taken to find them.
