I'm just venting here....... [Big Grin]
I installed the beta defs from symantec this morning to protect against bugbear.b. They installed to a folder called 20030605.007. When the platinum certified defs came out this afternoon I attempted to install them without success. It turns out that the certified defs install to folder 20030605.006. (006 is the revision number) So Symantec av thinks I'm trying to install old defs and will not install it. I called tech support and they said to backdate the defs, give it time to update the 5000+ clients I manage, then install the new certified defs. I told him that would be easy to do, but there's a level 3 worm out that may leak into the network while I was backdating the defs. The tech also wasn't able to find out if they were going to rerelase the defs with a different revision number.

I sent an email to our symantec rep letting him know what I thought about that...

I feel better now... [Big Grin]

I checked this morning and they had released new certified defs with a revision number of 21 so all is well again.... [Big Grin] Until they screw up something next time....
